2011 is an exciting year for The New Zealand Kennel Club as we will be celebrating our 125th Anniversary. Whilst this is not our 125th National Dog Show it is important that this event plays a major part in marking our special year.
Judges have been contracted from Canada, Belgium, Japan and Austria as well as our own New Zealand judges. Specialist Clubs have contracted specialist judges so that you, as exhibitors, get a chance to have your dogs assessed by experienced international and local judges. It is also an opportunity for you to talk to these judges about your breeds and hopefully gain some new or enhance the knowledge you already have. Most judges are more than willing to talk after they have finished their assignments so take advantage of the opportunity should it arise.
For the public it is a great opportunity to talk with breeders from all over the country. If you are thinking of buying a dog you will have the opportunity to see the dogs both in and out of the ring.
If you are interested in Agility there is plenty to see and always exciting. The exhibitors will be happy to talk to you about getting your dog into Agility which is a sport for all dogs and all age groups and lots of fun.
Spend some time watching the Obedience section. These dogs and their handlers are amazing. Test C which is their highest level is something everyone should take a look at.
NZKC Young Kennel Club will be there in force on the Thursday as will the Junior Dog Handlers taking part in a competition that will see the winner off to Crufts in England to compete against other top juniors from around the world.
There will be trade stands selling dog related products that you can buy for your own dog. Yummy ice cream and excellent coffee.
2011 is a special year for all of us so come along and support the show. There is something for everyone.
